During the past two days we’ve started to interview local knowledge holders about herring spawn locations in the Heiltsuk territory.   The goal of this part of the project is to document how herring spawning sites have changed through time.  We’ve had the pleasure to talk to three individuals so far, and map out their observation of how spawning sites have changed since the 1960s.

Our interviews and mapping of herring spawning locations continue, and we’re getting to know the lay of the land much better. This should serve us well for selecting research sites – hopefully we’ll be out on the water tomorrow.
